Photo: VLT Laser Guide Star is launched to the sky
A laser beam is launched into the sky to form a spot at the sodium layer at 90 km altitude. This spot serves as an artificial guide star which is used to measure the atmospheric turbulence in order to correct for it with Adaptive Optics System. On the right side is the center of our Milky Way galaxy.
