The Fernandez's Firecrown (Sephanoides fernandensis) is an endemic species of Juan Fernandez Archipelago. It is a highly endangered species; an estimated number of only 500 to 1000 of these birds exist. Due to the strong difference in color between male and female, they were considered two different species for a long time.
